I have two friends that do so that their paddles don't get folded over.. They only ride sand and don't even own a pair of knobbies that I know of.... It doesn't make a difference with the shocks I don't think as long as you don't have the shocks compressed almost completely for a long period of time. That would blow the seals from what I was told along time ago.
