hey, any ones 500 have a rotating nock @ idle that goes away at higher RPMs..............or can you hear your starter shims rattle at high RPMs. any thoughts......cant afford what the dealer may have to say,,,,,,,,,,,,,(pull the motor and we will see) not on my dime.................

 

If it is coming from the pull start side it is normal.

 

If the idle is set too low the decompressor valve will hammer sounding like a motor knock. Also check the intake snorkels where they run up as they will vibrate where they touch together sounding like a knock.....

 

May sound too simple but it may be your belt knocking on the housing.... Learned the hard way when i paid those crooked dealers $139 to replace a $40 part.....

 

My 04 does the same thing (from day one)took it to the dealer this is normal it's has to do with the straight cut gears they are noiser than bevel cut gears but stronger which is why a lot of other ATV'S are quiet

 

The knocking sound is the primary clutch. It is normal with all the Polaris cvt quads.
