Eton Mini-50 will not start...
#1
I have an eton mini 50 and it will not start. It quit running the other day while my son was driving it and never would refire. I replaced the spark plug, drained the gas and put fresh in and made sure there was gas going through the fuel filter into the carb. I tried a little ether too, but it still would not start.
Any ideas? What else could I try? The engine turns over, but it never fires.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

How old is this 50? Does it have any compression when it turns over? You might want to replace or atleast check your valves. Also, it might be the stator. How long did your son ride it before it quit? Later man,

He rode it for an hour or so. He also told me that it would not go up little hills before it quit.
The compression is good. The starter is good. Do you think it could be the exhaust? I didn't try cleaning out the pipe. He was riding it in a pasture after we recently bushhogged, so there was a lot of cut grass in the chain.

If it's the mini 50 the new one then first you can try cleaning the spark arrester but more than likley it's the ign. switch

If it was the ignition switch, would it turn over? It turns over, but will not start. Is there anyway I can short out the ignition switch to see if that is it?
Sorry for the delay in my reply, I have been out of pocket.

The first thing you need to do is pull the spark plug and crank it over and look for spark...Even if the spark arrestor is plugged it still should start and run briefly.

Is it a 2 cycle, I was told that when they get low on oil they will not start, its a saftey featrure so u dont damage the eng. I just bought one of those for my kid and my buddy says it happened to his kids. Finally added oil and it fired up.

It has plenty of oil. I pulled the spark plug and turned it over. It is not getting any spark. I looked at the ignition switch and it looks okay. Could it be bad? Is there anyway to bypass or test it?
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Scott
