My buddy has a 2003 sportsman 400 and the he is getting no spark. I removed the pull start cover and cleaned the pickup but still nothing. Is there a common faild component that might cuase this?

 

I have seen on the 500 sportsmans 2003 -2004 that the sparkplug wire gets pinched between the frame and gas tank. the wire must be rerouted. If thats your problem I dont know but it would be worth checking out.

 

I checked that, when I was diagosing the problem, and the routing looked fine

 

check the coil (should be on the frame near the gas tank, or under the front cab on the older units) and make sure the connections are clean and still plugged in-- is the sparkplug boot threaded ontothe wire fully? Did this suddenly happen or did it not start after setting for a few weeks?

 

I believe it sat for a day or two. He shredded a belt, changed the belt, took it out for a ride around the block then put it away for the day or two, then nothing no spark
