I've got a 2003 predator 90 for my son, its basically been a great ATV, however...

Starting it is a real bear when its cold. You have th crank the starter for 2-3 minutes, and then it will start to catch. Playing with the choke and gas when it starts catching seems to help.

I'm not a small engine guru, but I'm not afraid to take things apart either. I've done the things that I could
think of that were obvious like check the choke cable tension and replace the spark plug, this didnt help.

I've had the ATV into the shop on this issue, and well, I still have the issue.

Any advise? The thing starts great once warm, and runs fine once warmed up.

have you always had to choke it to get it started, or did it get worse as time went by?

 

Its been difficult to start for a very long time. I have to be honest and say, I'm not sure the choke makes much of a difference in starting it, its more of a throttle thing as it starts to catch after a couple minutes of cranking.

I took the boot off the carbarator where the choke cable enters and made sure that it went in and out (wasnt catching or hanging up) and it seeems to move out and retract fine.

I haven't gapped the spark plugs when I put them in.
