Anyone ever heard of rear shock set-up without the link? If so are there any advantages/disadvantages to this? Does this increase or decrease travel?

No link is going to give you more travel. It is good through the rough stuff because you will have about 5in. or so of plushness before it starts to firm up. The down side because it has that plushness it makes it harder to preload for a jump. Your rear shock will also have to be reworked to fit the no link. No link is what Spader runs if I'm not mistaken.

Thanks for your input, have decided to have shocks re-valved but still keep the link set-up . Mark baldwin @ balbwin motorsports helped me make decision, he is rebuilding/re-valving the shock.

You have to get a different swingarm to use a "no link" setup. I would say the you would be happier using the stock linkage anyway.
