Default 1996 Xplorer 400 Locked 4WD

I have a 1996 Xplorer 400 that I use primarily for ranching duty. Its not a bad unit, but the On-Demand 4WD drives me nuts when I get into deep mud, deep snow, or I'm trying to crawl downed trees. It acts like an open diff and sends power to the tire least in need of it. I've read about spinning the tires in 4WD reverse and it does seem to be locked up after doing this, however I would simply like to change the system over to a fully locked 4WD. Anyone know how I might accomplish this?

Thanks in advance.

You must have something wrong with one of your hubs. Both front wheels should pull at all times when it is in 4wd.
