No spark on a 700 Sportsman
#1
I went riding a few days ago with a friend on an '02 700 Sportsman. She was in the back of the pack and when I looked back she wasn't there. A few yards back she was on the side of the road and said it lost power and made a weird noise. We hauled it back to their house and noticed that it was not getting any spark out of either plug. We took off the cdi/coil box with the plug wires and plugged that into another 700 sportsman, and it got great fire. So that is elimanted. We also tested the wires that run out of the side cover to the coil and they read 398 ohms which is in the middle of the range. Any info. is appreciated.

Does the engine kill switch on the 02 kill all power like on my 06 or will it crank with the switch in the off position. IT may be a simple switch issue. Does the throttle have the same saftey in it to kill the engine if trying to start while the throttle is depressed.

Yes, check the ETC switch inside the throttle box. Sometimes the thottle cord it pushed out of the slot and the ETC swithc kills the engine. If yours has a blackout system on it, you know that it kills all power in and out and dissengages the fuel system? Those are actually rare but u never know. Check the kill switch and, take the spark plugsa out and spray some eether in there.. Fire up! haha good luck!
