What are the signs of it going bad?

Can someone describe how a one-way bearing sounds like before it starts failing. Sometimes on my 03 the starter will just spin & not turn the motor over. I would have to pause for a few seconds and then try again.

Yank it before the spring fragments eat up the bearing surface under it and you'll have to replace that gear as well. DO NOT buy a replacement OEM oneway. The LA design is a huge improvement. Mine's been on my 686 since the first prototypes were out and it's holding up just fine. My replacement OEM oneway didnt last very long at all.

I also agree, I just had to replace mine, But i just kept starting it even when it wouldnt work then i started pushing it off and I ate up the gear also, so I had to pay another 80 bucks to replace the gear. If i were you i would check out raptor tranny.com and get the LA one way.
