A friend of mine was just given a 250R cause the engine is shot. I would like some recommendations from anyone that has rebuilt or replaced one of these engines as to the best course of action to take. Is there a larger engine that fits the stock frame? or is it best to find the same size? any insights would be appreciated.
thanks

take it to a local dealer and see how much it would cost to rebuild and or check in the atv connection classifieds

What do you mean that the engine is "shot?" If you start a tear down, what does the cylinder and piston look like? Are they junk? Then check the rod. How loose is it? If you don't know what you're doing, take it to a reputable shop and have them look at it for you. When you really understand the condition of the engine, then you can decide where to go from there.
If you want to put a bigger engine in this chassis, a lot of people have put in CR500 engines. I've even seen a Suzuki 500 stuffed into a 250R chassis. The sky's the limit.

As the previous posters said the engine might just need a rebuild. Any shop can rebuild it from the ground up, you just have to write the check. But I would advise shipping it to me for proper disposal. Good luck.
