having trouble with a one month old 2001 rancher 4x4es. the speedometer registers speed intermittently. sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. can't seem to put a pattern to it. when it registers 0, its not long before the electric shift shuts down. turning the key off and restarting the engine re-sets the computer and it will shift for short time, but the speedo will still register 0. wonder if anyone has had a similar experience and found the cure? anyone have to replace the speed sensor? had the machine to the dealer and they couldn't find anything wrong (but as soon as i got it back home it acts just the same)

If you have done a lot of mudding or playing in a stream you may have moisture in your angle sensor. Clean it and fill it with dielectric grease.

problem did show up after riding in our first snowfall. 15 inches of snow, 10oF. wondered if it might be a moisture problem. my first ATV - where is the angle sensor located and what is its function. sure appreciate the help!

thanks for the advice! cleaned the connection at what i think is the angle sensor (on front of trans close to front driveshaft) and speedo now registers perfect. gave it a good run and no problems. ride on!

Glad to be of help. Make sure you fill the connector with dielectric grease to preclude any reoccurence.
