Default rapter 660 valve ajustment

My 2001 raptor 660 has been running great untill i heard a tapping in the engine. My cousin says i need my valves ajusted. Im wondering how much this will cost (estimated price). Also if i dont ajust the valves could it damage my engine or is it something i could hold off on untill i get the money to fix it

First question is have you ever done a valve adjustment on it before? Second, is the tapping noise really light tapping or hard tapping? And Do you check your oil everytime you ride? Just trying to take away the possibility of damage in your engine first. About the valve adjustment. It's pretty easy to do yourself. All you would have to do is get the Raptor Repair Manual. You can pick up the cd manual off ebay for cheap. Then you will want to pick up the vavle tool. That all will run you about 30 bucks. The vavle tool comes in a set of three different sizes. Hope this helps. Scott

Its not to bad. Just follow the steps in the manual. The tool is not needed, but would be nice. You can use a needle nose pliers.

Valves tend to tighten up on the raptor. I would definetly check them.

Well First, Make it a habit to check your oil everytime. Once the motor gets old the rings of course starts to worn. Once the ring get worn out you burn alot of oil. That's how I blow up my first motor. So first check your oil level and also check the color of it. If it's black, I suggest changing your oil. When was the last time your changed your oil? This tapping could be alittle bit bigger than a valve adjustment.

I look on ebay for alot things. There isn't a valve tool on there so I suggest stopping by a dealership and ordering one. They can do that for you. Scott
