Snorkel tubes full of hot air.

I've been slowly working on my 730 and got the jetting pretty close I think. I've been doing it with the tank cover off so changing the needle was a bit easier. Since I felt I was as close on jetting as I was willing to get, I put the tank cover back on and went riding. I noticed the response was not quite right. I've read many posts on here about how the tubes are not cool with size, lenght and routing and what people are doing to fix it. I am going to look into that.
With the tubes routed under the cover, I first was looking for a place to get more air under that cover. I think it has pleanty of room to pull air, however, it is all from above the head. I don't think that routing them under the cover is restricting air flow as much as pulling hot air from above the motor. I'm not sure how I want to change the routing. Being how they are stock is awsome protection from water entering the airbox. I've run into water before and can rally ruin your day (and motor I'm certain). Any thoughts?

if you give omr a private message he posted the snorkel tubes on what he did I think he took pvc pip not positive on that though check the air screw and mess with that for a little maybe you will get a better response what are you running exactly(jet size, pipe?) alot of people have had porblems bogging down from the stupid vent tube from the gas tank if you take the cover off the gas tank and look there should be a fitting with a hose connected and if thats kinked it can cause alot of problems...how does the ds compare to the lt 500

I read OMR's carb mods. All good stuff. I think he is shortening the tubes to get them out from under the cover. I'll re-read his post.
I'll probably end up shortening mine as well. I was hoping I could figure out a way to keep them under there for water protection and maybe even cleaner air. I'm not going to adjust my carb to compensate. I have it dialed pretty close and if it needs adjusting with the cover on then the cover is the problem that needs to be adressed.
As for comparison to the LT; this would start a huge "mine is bigger than yours" fight. For me, there is no comparison. My LT had more performance mods done to it with the same amount of time as the DS but with less money. It would take alot of work to make my DS out run my LT. I'M NOT SAYING MY LT WILL BEAT ALL OF YOUR GUYS DS's SO DON'T START.
Just as the useless quad magazines would say, "Two different machines. I love them both".

Good luck and nice zilla. If there is any other help needed give a shout.

Thanks for the link and compliment on my LT.
I made my own 730 kit. Shortly after I cut up my cylinder, HPR came up with a new casting. I know he was waithing for me to cut mine up first. Had I known, I would have bought his in a second. I did get my piston from him though. Now he is offering a "not complete " cylinder for less money that would have been even better for me. Oh well, next time. It's still fun.
