Default What Year is this 660 Grizzly Im looking at?

Im looking at buying my friend's 660 grizzly but I want to be sure it not the group with weak axles. His ownership states 2003 but the bike has no over ride button and its side panels are not the vented type so it maybe a late 02 with 03 papers?

Here is the serial number if someone from here can tell the year from it. JY4AM03W73C009174

It only has 700 km on it but the axles are $240/per if they snap and I do not want the 03 grizzly with the weak axle problems.

Any info would be welcomed.

Thanks
Tim

It was the '03 model year that had the weak CV joint problem but I don't know if it was for the whole year or a particular serial number range within that year...

it wasn't till 2004 that it got the reverse override button and the vented panels. It was a recall to all 2002-2003 Grizzlys to come in and get the heat kit that was factory on the 2004's and up.

I would bet that it is a 2003 like the paper work says.

There has been a lot of talk about the 2003 for the past 3 years or so. Some say that its the big tires and the way guys ride that snaps the axles. Some say yamaha tried to cut cost and put a small diameter axle shaft on the 03's. Some even say that differentials are not in line and are causing over time failure.

But none the less no one can resput the fact that no other has more bad talk about the axles then the 2003 Grizzly. And that's why people say the 04 got the same size axle that the 02' had.

It's an '03. The 10th digit of the vin tells you that...

1 = 01
2= 02
3 = 03

etc.
