dumb question about oil change
#1
I know this is probably a very dumb question but this is the first honda I have ever owned. I am going to change the oil. Where is the filter at on the motor? Also how do you drain the oil from the tank? When filling do you fill the tank all the way full?
it is a 2003 Honda 400ex
Thanks

the filter cover is on your right-hand side down by the brake pedal, it will have 2 8mm bolts holding it on. when you change your oil in the honda you need to drain BOTHplugs. one is at the bottom of the tank the other is under the engine. hope this helps ya.

Thanks for the info. I did'nt see a plug on the bottom of the tank all i saw was the oil line that goes in towards the bottom of the tank is that what i remove? Also when i put the new oil back in do i need to prime anything or just put oil in the tank and it will cycle it self?
Thanks,

I changed the oil yesterday. The person before me put the filter in the wrong way when they changed it and i don't know how long it has been that way. I hope it didn't mess anything up. I didn't see anything strang in the oil.

That unfortunetly is very common, especially when someone uses a emco filter or one like it. They dont have any print on them saying which way is out.
Its also a bad design, it should be dummy proof, so the thing can only phyiscally installed the correct way. Like the external metal case, filters.
