Default any chance my dash board(tach) could cause over heating on outy 800

i went riding today and before i went i hit the trip button and then i saw something i never saw before, the display read X100RPM WITH THE NUMBER UNDER IT....usually it will just read the rpms like normal..i have never saw this before and when ever i tried to change the dislpay it went back to that...

blah-blah..anyway it would over heat or FAKE OVER HEAT...the light would come on and it wooul say limp back..sometimes if i shut the key off and turn it back on the red light would be gone and it would be like nothing happened, other times it would really over heat cause i could feel the heat on my legs by the motor....wtf

take it to your dealer and have him hook the computer up to it and it should tell him if its an electrical problem or if its actually overheating

I'm not where I can check mine out, but I think if you switch to where the needle sweep reads RPM it will say X100 in the digital display or vice versa if needle reads speed the digital display will show X100 and read RPM, not sure which. Anyway I have had problems with my speedo droping to zero and all the warning lights coming on while riding down a trail and they jumping back to normal, did this during the first trip out, and progressively got worse as I put more time on the machine. I decided to wait until I took it back in for the 10 hour service to have the dealer check into it, as it was not having any affect on performance, of course now it stopped doing it at about 8 hours and hasn't done it since???, I'm sure it will start back up after I get it back from being serviced-just my luck. It seems like there have been a few speedo pod issues on these things, thank goodness for the 3 yr warranty. I think I will for sure be getting an in-line temp gauge and oil pressure gauge for mine so I'm not relying on idiot lights for such critical info, especially since there seems to be a reliabilty issue with these speedo pods. Happy trails.
