Replacing rear seals and bearings on Trailboss 325
#1
Hi,
Does anyone have experience replacing the seals and bearings on the Trailboss 325. I checked the parts fische and it doesn't look too bad of a job. Is there a complete seal and bearing kit? Are any special tools required? Any gotchas that I should watch out for?
Thanks in advance for your replies.

I did it in about two hours. The only special tools that I had to use was a torch to get the nut loose but other than that it wasn't that big of a deal. I did lose some threads on the shaft from the nut having to be forced off but I was able to tighten it back up with what was left. Maybe trying spraying some good bolt loosener spray on there a day before to help with the nut. Good luck.

save your self about twenty bucks and get the numbers off of the seal and bearing and go down to the bearing suppy house. I didn't do that because my bearings were shot and couldn't get a # however, when I go the new ones from partsland.com I had the guy at the bearing house and ALL *****.com look it up . The bearing are typical tapered wheel bearings. He looked them up and could have got them for 20 dollars less

the service manual calls for the bearing set nut to be tight enough that there is
no up & down or side to side play but the axle must spin freely, if it will not then
the nut is to tight.

Just to let the "others know", gettiing those pinch bolts off was INSANE! We had to end up cutting them off with a cut-off grinder, after numerous heating attempts. There must be "weld-tite" on those bolts. Chit man. We'll follow up with the rest of the axel rebuild.

Im a bit late on this one, but I did it in a couple hours also. The thing Ive learned since then is after each ride just check the axle for play and keep the bearings ajusted to the proper tourqe and you wont have any problems.

I just did my 05 500. I have no slop in the bearing and I don't think something is correct. Is the rear axle hard to spin by hand with NO tires on the axle. I have the chain with a little slop but man its kind of hard to turn. Is it because of the trany? Everything is lubed and I packed the bearings BEFORE I installed them in the races. Never done it before so I don't know how hard it should be to turn. QUESTION: How tight do you torque the two 1/2 " bolts to? Can you overtighten them with a 3/8 drive ratchet?
