Default Reducing heat on Outy 800 question...

How do you recommend reducing heat on this machine? Would a different pipe do it? Which one? Thanks, Pastor

ceramic coating could be a way..my buddy has a high lifter radiator temp gauge...this puts the fan into higher revs than normal when it hits a certain temp...keeps him real cool

Don't know what the deal is, but mine is just not hot on legs or butt. A thread awhile back recommended 600* aluminum tape from True Value which I was going to get, but in all honesty, I just don't need it.

Let the heat out as it's designed, just get some aluminum tape for where it's hot. All of the big bores are hot on the legs, the Outy is about the same or less imo.

Off topic a bit, but protecting the radiator with some shield will just make the engine hotter, maybe damaging it. Save the radiator and damage the engine?

Actually this was one of my concerns with buying an 800, the summers here get very hot. Although I only have about 10 hrs on my Outlander I haven't noticed anything unusual. Some of the riding is fairly tight and slower mountain trails and the fan cycles fairly often but haven't noticed anything uncomfortable. Last weekend was in the 90's, this weekend was the 80's. I also spend a few hours in the gravel quarry, this stuff just sucks HP from the machine. I was doing long figure 8's and climbing up some pretty steep piles of gravel. I had actually forgotten about my concers until I saw this thread.

Default Reducing heat on Outy 800 question...

I cannot say that the heat issue is stopping me from enjoying the bike however, I am concerned as there have been a few times while riding that i am thinking "man, this thing sure is hot...". I used to own a Suzuki King Quad 700 and I don't remember the heat ever being a deal. The K.Q. was a single...anyway...I am enjoying this bike...like crazy, just wondering what other guys are doing abouth this.

Raidermike...I used to live in Sacto. do you do any mountain riding? I was wondering about some riding places up and outside of Mt. Shasta...you ever been up there?

Pastor, what the other guys are doing is ceramic coating the header and exhaust inside and out having it professionally done. Doesn't do anything for the right leg, helps the seat heat and left leg a lot.

A couple of guys just recently found some ceramic coating for sale at two sites, they took the exhaust off and just sprayed the outside, no more problem from exhaust. Doesn't do anything for the right leg, helps the seat heat and left leg a lot. Not for the average guy's garage tool set, with the spray gun.

Others are getting aluminum heat tape at Tru-Value or wherever, and putting it under their seat and on their plastic. This is what I try if heat were a problem, which for some reason it isn't on my bike, no seat issues, no cvt warp issues, no '2nd degree burn' issues on the legs. A post did say the wife got burned that bad. I have felt heat on my right leg and moved it out an inch or two, no more problem continuing up the steep rocky (no visible dirt) trail.

Thanks for the great response. Actually, I can identify with what you are saying. Sometimes I don't even notice any heat...then, at other times it seems hot. I have not experienced any seat discomfort.

Default Reducing heat on Outy 800 question...

Does anyone mind posting production dates and describing their heat shield set up?

I my prod. date was 03/06.....pretty late in the process. I can take a pic of my sheilds, it looks pretty well protected to me and I haven't noticed any problems. I'm probably going to add to it just to be safe but I wonder if something changed from earlier production dates??

I think the pictures would be a good idea. I don't have any right now but I'll take some.

The production date on mine was 11/05.
