sportsman 500 engine compression
#4
Original problem was no spark. Ohm meter indicated the stator was the problem. Trying to pull the flywheel per the repair manual, had the puller on and when i turned the large center bolt on the puller the engine would rotate, after about 1/2 trun in got hard to turn and when I beared down on it something popped, I thought it was the flywheel breaking loose...but it wasn't... after that it seemed somewhat easier to rotate the engine. I put a comperssion gauge on it an only reads approximately 25psi???? Pulled the vavle/rocker cover off the rocker arms are both moving the springs look OK, the cam chain is OK. I do not know how much compression it had before, but it was running fine up until it stop firing the plug. The recoil starter/flywheel/stator area was full of water.

Thanks, I am very happy to hear that. So how do I check the true compression? Another question, how do I lock the flywheel to keep it from turning so i can pull it off?
