Default Wow.. Cost to rering warrior at local shop

i called the local shop today.. was thinking about taking my warrior to them to get new rings put in.. he said probably around 600 bucks . jezz.. for that i could put in a JE piston , new cam , lifters and rings. so im going to do it myself again.. last time i put in new gaskets i took my friends word for some odd reason who told me the old rings were fine because the end gaps were with in specs, believe it or not i think i actually did know better.. well its smoking.. and i blew the new head gasket becuase he was playing with my torq wrench while i was working , and i had it set to 20 lbs.. well he cranked it up to 30 messing with it so i ended up with my head bolts tightened down an extra ten lbs.. head gasket lasted about 2 hours.. This time im going to do it again.. put in new rings.. Get it punched out and put in a new piston if i have to .. but damm i cant think of what would make that a 600 dollar job. i couldent believe that when the shop told me that.. im afraid to take the jug to them now for the machine work even. there shop rates 60 an hour.. maybe its going to take them ten hours for the job or something.. i really dont get it . anyone heard of anything like that before ?

materials... about $300( depending on what u get,,, i think you said new piston($60?) cam($120, why? if you're gonna do a cam get something with a higher lift) you don't need new lifters.. but if you do a bigger cam.. maybe do HD springs.. rings are a few dollars and they come with the piston.. you will need to have it bored( i beleive that's about $60 unless it comes with a new sleeve and idk how much that is) that comes to about $250 materials and prolly take them 4 hours total to do it all.. ssoo $600 is about right... however.. you can most likely do it all yourself if you are careful and w/e you do... do not buy cometic gaskets...

Actually the price was just for reringing it.. i spose hone and piston too they pry took that into account.. i dont need a new cam.. i just said for the 600 dollars i could do it myself and put all those new parts into it. i did buy cometic gaskets again.. why do you say dont go cometic ? i blew it out in 2 hours last time but i attribute that to the fact that i overtorqed the head bolts.. What kind of gaskets should i get for it >? and where should i get them from ? Thanks
