i have brought a 250sx reciently and have finally got around to giving it some TLC....even though she is aready REAL straight!

it is leaking oil out of the front of the motor, and is looking like it needs a new head gasket....am i heading in the right direction....it is coming from the head....has anyone else experienced this with these motors

also what type and size cam chain does it take?

and is adjusting the clutch similar to the honda 300 4x4....ie....loosen lock nut, loosen it, tighten screw till resistance then let off 1/4 turn, then tighten lock nut?

plus i have a worn bushe in the bottom of the rear shock, can i get away with spinning up a bush in the lathe to fit instead....any suggestions

cheers.....this is the first atc i have owned, it now lives with my 250x

am very impressed with the way it goes!....

for a farm bike (reason i brought it).....it flat out hauls!

I think you've made a very good choice. I too have a 1985 250sx. I'm the second owner, bought in '87. I've owned this trike for a loooooong time. I can attest that it has been to hell and back. Ripped apart twice and put bakc together. After sitting for 6 yrs, in the elements, in pieces, same fluids it was easily brought back to life. I am currently restoring it to as new condition as possible with a few additions to make it a little better. This trike is a tank!! I have never been left stranded or had engine problems.

To answer your questions;
1. never had this problem, but sounds like you are heading in the right track. i suggest cleaning the engine of all the oil, dirt and such. then ride for a while and keep an eye on the area that you think the oil is coming from.
2. get a repair manual, I've got two of them. i picked mine up at Honda. If you can't find one I'll sell you one of mine.
3. adjusting the clutch is exactly as you describe. I would still get the manual and double check.
4. I don't see why making your own bushing wouldn't work.

Enjoy the ATC.
