help with oil change on 2002 Rancher ES 4x4
#1
I just bought an 2002 Honda Rancher ES 4X4(first ATV) and want to change the oil. I have oil and a filter but no owners manual available. Can anyone tell me how to go about changing the oil? A good description since this is new to me would be very appreciated.

Ok, these are instructions for and oil change on the 400EX. Everything is different EXCEPT for the internals of the oil filter change, so check that out because that is the same. YOU WILL DESTROY YOUR ENGINE IF YOU PUT THE OIL FILTER IN BACKWARD, so pay attention to that: http://www.atvriders.com/articles/oilchange400ex.html The rubber gasget on the filter, fits onto a nipple that is on the inside of the cover, so be sure you get that as your reasemble.
Warm the engine up so the oil flows more easily. Start by removing the large bolt on the bottom of the engine (just look for the hole in the skid plate), and drain the oil. The oil filter cover is on the right side of the engine, just below the dipstick where you check the oil. Remove the 3 bolts holding it on, and inside you will find that things are just like the 400EX described above. Replace the filter, and put everything back together. Replace the drain bolt, and refill with oil. It takes ~2+ quarts............
Some info that might help you pick an oil: http://www.thumperfaq.com/oil.htmI I have been running Maxima Extra ester synthetic oil in everything for years, and highly recommend it! http://www.maximausa.com/products/4s...synthextra.asp

If this is a machine that is new to you, wouldn't hurt to change out the lube in the two differentials while you are at it.
Has it had a valve adjustment lately????
You know how to clean the air filter, right?
