Hey all you cold weather riders! Anyone have a preference for keeping your hands warm? Heated grips sound good, but I wonder if you'd get the old campfire problem (you bake your front and freeze your ***). Shields sound OK, but I wonder how they hold up to rough trail riding.

Heated grips are great....but don't forget about a thumb warmer - the thumb is the most vulnerable when ridng in cold weather. Also, consider handlebar gloves (not sure what they are called) - only disadvantage is you can't see you controls - they cover the entire end of the handlebar including the controls - you just slip your hands inside of them - but they are probably the most effective overall cold weather protection - and it is the most simple and economical solution.

Is it easy to get your hands out of those handlebar mits in emergency... like if you need to bail?

No problem bailing if necessary - your hands come out easily.........that is, unless you are a lawyer....then it's like have your hands an arms hopelessly welded to the bars with no chance of being released..........

P.J., just went thru Menomenie this weekend, we were on our way to Neilsville to ride but blew a trailer tire in Eau Claire. Spent all day finding a Farm n Fleet since the spare was bad too.
It was too darn cold to ride by that time.

Where else is a good place to ride?

Use the Hand Guards or both. I used the hand guards and I noticed and immediate benefit. Not only does it keep any wet stuff off your gloves, but it keeps the wind off too. I would say that both would be the best solution, but I have found that at least guards are necessary.
