Reserve Gas Tank

Everyone knows gas goes bad after awhile, but what happens if you don't use the gas in the reserve tank?
Does it just sit there?
Should you run the reserve tank down to add new gas every so often??

No, the reserve is not a seperate tank. It is just a warning that makes you physically turn a petcock. All the fuel in the same container!
