05 Grizzly 125 starter issue
#1
My sons 125 Grizzly's starter misses when it gets hot. After an hour or two, if he shuts it off for a short time he goes to restart it and the starter just spins and grinds, it won't make contact. I pulled the starter out and was suprised to find that the starter isn't designed to slide out and make contact with the flywheel like most do. I assume there is another gear in the case that slides to the starter. If thats in fact the case then fixing it will be a huge pain in the ***. Any thoughts? Anyone had this problem with there's? Any help would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Cars yes, on motorcycles and quads, hardly ever, I think the Suzuki LT80 is the only one that does, maybe one or two Chinese kids quads.
Motorcycles and Quads usually use a one way clutch behind the flywheel. On the Yam 125 this runs dry and gets dirty. Strip it, clean it, check the springs are OK and put it back together. On most Quads, if they start slipping they are toast, but the older, three rollers with springs behind them, designs, can often be revived.
