Default Scrambler rear brake performance

When I got my 02' Scrambler one of the minor problems with it was he could not get the back brake to work. I bled the line and got it to work and then discovered that it had no pads left. Last night I put on new pads and took it out for a spin. I was expecting too be able to lock up the rear with new pads and good pedal pressure but it would not lock up. It has good line pressure and I am not bottoming out the foot brake onto the floorboard.

Am I expecting too much from it??

Do I need to try Dot 4 or 5.1??

I've had to STAND on the pedal to get rears close to locking up, some Polaris' are easier to lock up than others but in general the all in one brake system sucks for rear brakes.

Same thing with my 06. Bled the line and put sintered metal rear pads on it....night and day difference, but still not lock up performance like fronts. And I cant keep the pads on this thing...I have about 40 miles on them and they are about half worn. I mud ride but come on...its ridiculous. Luckly its an easy job.

maybe the brakes arent adjusted right.

i have no problems with my brakes. i can lock up the rear easy, but dont see the need too. just using the hand lever i can stop on a dime

Use some brake cleaner on the disk to ensure you have no fluid, grease etc.... on the disk. I had a temporary problem with my rear brake after changing my axle for the 4th time, (Thanks to Dura crap axles), turns out I just had some grease transfer from my fingers to the disk. The solvent fixed the problem.

The rear brake setup is not sufficient enough for the weight of the machine to expect it to lock up, there would need to be a much better set up it you wanted that performance. If you wear out the pads quickly, look at worn rear axle bearings. The rear will slightly wobble if bearings are worn & slightly rub the pads pre-maturely wearing the out. Also if you have to pump the all in 1 brake lever before it stops, this is another sign of worn rear axle bearings since it pushes the pads apart so you have to pump it a time or 2 to get it to apply enough pressure to stop. The all in 1 brake lever does work great in stopping you VERY quickly, wether you like it or not is a different subject.

switch the line position on the rear caliper, it helps. I use rears only and split they lock with just the weight of my foot. prior I had just swapped the lines and blad the system and it was noticibale better.
