how much should there be while sitting on the bike, and being off the bike

chain slack while sitting on the bike

Chain slacks is usually around 30-40 mm, and is measured with no weight on the quad and the wheels sitting on the ground. The chain will tighten as the suspension compresses, and that measurement is designed to still give you enough slack with the suspension fully bottomed out.
