Default Tire storage

I currently have a set of 26" tires that are still in pretty good shape and should get me through the winter. I currently have the money to purchase my next set of tires to replace my current ones. If I make the purchase now and store the new ones in my shed for 6 months, will I have any problems with the new tires (cracking, etc) when I go to have them mounted?

I have some tires with air in them that have been around (most of the time) in a shed for 10 years and they are still usable. Sunlight is probably the worst thing on them.

But why not just purchase the new ones in 6 months? Heck, your machine could crash or something before then.

Spray them down with some armorall tire shine I herd that goes a long way in protecting them from dry rotting. Just my .02

I go through a lot of tires so I always have some backups in storage, but the weather here is very mild. I take it that your shed isn't heated, and it can get really, really cold there in SD? The cold might be an issue for an uninflated tire (it might get very brittle???). Give the tire manufacturer a call.........

Hey ReconRanger, wish you could experince some of this weather we are having now. 4 inch's of ice and 10-14 inch's of snow. It's a Blast slipping and sliding around. When some one gets behind me I punch it and they disapear in a blanket of snow and ice. Probably much like riding in the desert.

I actually get in lots of snow time (and I have lived in Canada, Minnesota, and Alaska). I live in the valley where it never snows, but I look out my window at a 12,000 foot mountain. Believe me, it can snow here in our Calif mountains! Lots of places in the Sierra can get 50 feet or more every winter..............

So, I have the best of both worlds! If I don't want to be bothered with snow or cold weather, I can easily avoid it. If I want it, I can be in it in less than an hour. Or, I can be basking in the sun at the beach, in less than an hour. Or, ripping in the dunes or riding desert cross country, in less than.........

Thanks for the replies. No, my shed is not heated, neither is my garage for that matter. It can get pretty damn cold here and that was one of my concerns. I was thinking about this more after I posted and I think I may just take the money I'll need and hide it from the wife so I can buy the tires when I'm ready.
