recon wont start, no lights, no battery ect
#1
so i went out riding today in the snow, and i noticed that only one of my fog lights were working a little while later, i noticed that i had started a fire behind me because my tailight is broken and the bulb broke as well, so i seperated the wires and headed home, i then noticed that every time i hit the gas, the lights brightend alot, oh and its a month old battery. i get home and go inside to get a few things and go back out to try to fix the fog light, a huge spark flew out of where i have the switch mounted which is in the space for oil temperature, right next to the key slot thing now, my quad wont start, the neautral light wont light, nothing works, also i put the battery charger on for awhile, absoulutly nothing, today is just not going well, cause my cell phone broke too, if anyone could tell me what could possibly be wrong that would be wonderfull......its a 2004 honda recon, thanks -Tyler

recon250submarine, you shouldn't need to do anything special for winter riding. Just ride it like you normaly would. I have mine jetted and in the winter I have to change my jetting so that I can put my air box lid back on due to the deep water but your running snorkles so I am sure you have your lid on anyway

tymann09, you got a short somewhere I would fix the obvious broken stuff first and if you still have problems bust out the manually and start trouble shooting I know the Rancher's Diagram is a nightmare

First, be sure you replace the fuse which is most likely blown! It is in the line to the lights and starter.
Then diconnect the battery, and if this is a battery problem it should still be able to start by pulling the auxilliary starter (or just push start it).

alright i will try some of this this afternoon, i do know that there might be a problem with my fog lights, but i think there may be more than that, like the fuse
also, recon250submarine, seeing that you live in NJ you probably get nor'easters, and i know that RancherATcrazy said you dont really have to do anything but if you are gonna ride often in the winter with temperatures below freezing alot then you might want to consider running thinner oil, recons usually take 10W 40, i use that in the summer and switch to 10W 30 in the winter, this makes it a little easier on the quad and easier to get running, also, i noticed you have a snowplow, hopefully its a 42" no bigger, if it is you are gonna have trouble.. w/ the plow you might want to get some tire chains to increase traction as well as put a sandbag or some kind of weight on the back to balance the weight, and if you have alot of snow at once take a little parts of the snow off at a time, not all at once, and if you are plowing alot, take breaks to let your quad cool down so you dont damage anything, hope this helps a little

i just went out and played around a little, i disconnected the winch and my fog lights, it seems as though that isnt the problem, also, i tried pull starting it again, and it does turn over, nt easy though because it is 15 degrees outside.....where exactly is the fuse?
