honda foreman 450S wont shift

Default honda foreman 450S wont shift

I have a 2000 Honda Foremand TRX450S. And for some reason it will not shift in or out of gear. Right now it is stuck in first and wont go to second or neutral. the shifter moves but wont "catch". i adjusted the clutch and it did not help What can i do to fix this??????

You are going to have to remove the front engine cover to inspect the gearshift plate and related components. Remove the front inner fenders and mudflaps on the front fenders and stand the machine on the rear rack. If the machine is dirty make sure you wash it first or mud and debris can easily fall inside of the engine. After removing the clutch cover (front engine cover) remove the change clutch (the one on the left side of engine as you're sitting on the machine) and then remove the gearshift linkage and plates that are attached to the shift shaft. I have seen a couple of gearshft plates break and when they do the shift drum won't turn when you move the shift lever. If everything is ok then you will need to teardown the engine and inspect the tranny but I'm willing to bet the problem is under the front engine cover.
