When this atv is shifted into reverse it wants to die . It will go forward fine and does not die . Then of course if you try to rev it up when putting it into reverse it grinds . Any ideas as to what the problem is ?

No, I haven't been using the overide button . Should I try pushing it in when I put it into reverse and see if it keeps it from dieing ?

Find the black wire coming off the rev limiter and unhook it.Your problem will be solved

 

Your problem is the reverse rev limiter black box. You can unhook it or replace it.

It is located under the headlight. It is a small black box next to the CDI box.

 

Is this a common problem with the older polaris atv's ?

mine was doing it randomly in forward and i found if i pressed override it would work. so then i unhooked a wire to fix it. its happend to a few machines
