06 450ER shifting into 2nd
#1
Hey guys, I have a 06 450ER that shifts hard into secound gear. It's not smooth and sometime I miss secound and it pops into neutral. It happens more after it is warmed up after riding for awhile. I have tried running Red Line trans oil but that did not seem to help very much. I also have made sure that the clutch is adjusted right. Everything seems ok. I'm thinking it maybe something in the trans that just needs to break-in. I do change the trans oil often and the engine oil. Does anyone else notice this problem with there 450R?

i bought a new 06 as well, i had a problem with my transmission when i first strarted to brake it in as well, mine would not shift in to 3rd, i mean you could pull up hard as you can and it would not shift, i called honda and they said that there was probably a bur on the gear, so i kept riding it and it fixed itself. they have a little warrenty on them, i would get at least 5 good hour or better rides on it, if it is still doing it, take it in.
good luck

On mine, it is easy to miss 2nd and end up in neutral. It doesn't "pop our of gear", it just doesn't get to 2nd unless I do the shift very deliberately. I posted this once and several riders said theirs were the same. I think it is just the nature of the beast.
In any case, if this is a new machine that is on warranty, ride it a while and both you and the quad may get better. If it persists after that, it may be something covered by warranty.

That is exactly what my 450ER is doing. I feel better knowing that I'm not alone on this problem. I to have to think and be careful when shifting to 2nd. Has anyone done anything to help this issue or has anyone noticed it getting better over time?
