How to remove ignition switch?
#1
Greetings. New to the board, I got referred here by posting this question somewhere else.
I recently bought a 1995 Fourtrax. It came with one key, which I managed to lose the first time I took it to the woods. The quote from the dealer, who is half an hour away, was ridiculous. I called the guy who did the locks on my house and he said he could do it for much cheaper, but that I had to pull the ignition switch and bring it to him (if he had to come out to my house and pull it, would be almost as expensive as dealer).
So, I looked in the manual and it shows all the wiring, but not how to get the switch out. If anyone could help it would be much appreciated. Many thanks.

Usually the swtich just has two tabs on the sides that you press and it should pop right out. You should be able to trace the wiring down to some place where you can just disconnect it.

Most have a male and female end and when plugged together complete the cicuit deleting the need for a key. But if you leave them plugged together the battery will drain down. A toggle switch could easily be used in place of the factory ignition.
