Default Sportsman 700.Looking for advice.

I'm new here so I would appreciate any advice or suggestions that you can give me.I recently purchased a new 2004(Yes,2004)Sportsman 700.I'm wanting to put on a 2" lift and 28" Mudzilla's on ITP C series wheels.I now have stock 25x8x12 on front and 25x11x12 on rear.Do I stay with the narrower tires on front or can I install same size all around.10" wide or 12"?.I am depending on your input on any mod suggestions or advice because here in So.Illinois I don't know of anyone with this experience.I trail ride with some pretty mean mudholes.Thanks.

I got 28x10x12 Zillas on type 6 ITP's all the way around. Plus I have 1.5" wheel spacers. I also have a 2" Highlifter lift. Look at the pics below. And Welcome to the forums.

Welcome to the forums as well!
Let me chime in on a few trial and errors that I've encountered. You can do with them as you wish, but you asked. I have a 700 with 28" Mudzilla's. The first thing to look for, is the stud length on yours. Polaris has 2 stud lengths, the ones that come with aluminum wheels from the factory have longer studs. You'll need to change yours out, if yours came with steel wheels and you want to add aluminum wheels. The Aluminum wheel is thicker which doesn't allow enough threads left for a good tight lugnut. Studs are about $1 each, times 16 of coarse. I have 28-12-12 and 28-8-12, you can not run 10 inch wide fronts without wheel spacers. Once you get them mounted on, you will see a low end power loss. I tryed these 28's on my 800 (which I don't have anymore) and without a clutch kit, I was dim(dead in mud). With the less powerful 700 engine, do not be surprised when you can't turn the tires over. You may do good in some holes, but mark my word, you will eventually see what I mean! You will need a clutch kit to overcome the low end power loss. Sportsman70003 and I, along with others, have Heel Clicker. We love it. That price runs about $180. If you want a 2" lift I will help you get a very good one, about $130. With the big tires and 2 inch lift, the CV's will be the next item to consider. You may never break a CV, or you could be like me and break a front with 2.1 miles on the quad. Mine was at stock lift, 28's and clutch kit. Heavy duty axles(Gorilla) are about $350 each. For me to run the 28" Mudzilla's I have spent about, $800 for rims/tires/lugnuts, $180 for a clutch kit, $1500 for 4 Gorilla axles, $16 for lugnuts, and $130 for a lift that is temporarily not in. For a grand total of, $2,626. I am not trying to scare you, just letting you know the chain of events and cost to expect. Sportsman70003 doesn't have the Gorilla's, and I don't know if he's broken any stocker CV's. So, you could maybe save the $1500. If you run the stock axles, DO NOT turn the wheels against the handle bar limit stop and apply ANY amount of throttle. I was BARELY feathering the gas in this situation when my axle broke. I know for sure, the lift kit is not needed for any clearance issues for '05 and up. I am not sure about the '04 though. The other thing that I'll share is wheel spacers. I had terrible rear hub luck while I used them. The rear lower arm to hub bolts would break, then bend the lower arm. About $200 in parts to repair, if the hub wasn't damaged. Since, I got rid of them I've had not problems. If you want them, they are usually about $100/set of 2. I am in no way thinking that I have all the answers. We all ride different terrains and styles. I wanted to give my take on the situation. As I have said, you asked, I answered. Feel free to ask any other questions. This is a great forum, and there are plenty of good people here that will help out in anyway that we can! Merry Muddin' and Happy Holidays

Thanks. Like instigator said you will probably need spacers. I did see a guy with 27x10x12 Executioner on the front of his 800 with aluminum wheels WITHOUT spacers. But most of the time you will need spacers.

I made my snorkels out of 2" pvc. I used flexible pvc and for the stacks I used regular pvc. I have some pics
here.

Only thing to add to Instigators post is that if you are going to run spacers you will not need to change the studs. Other note. Zillas are the heaviest tire made and a clutch kit is the best way to get the power back
