I called a Honda dealer today and he has a new '05 TRX400EX for $5410 out the door. For an '07 he wants $6150 out the door. The only different of these two, the '05 is yellow and the '07 I can get in red.

My question is: Is there any difference between the '05 & '07? Please help me out as much as you can. As this will be my first ATV.

 

That doesn't seem like that great of a price for a leftover 2005 man. I think you might even be able to get your hands onto a leftover 450R for that much. Both the 2005 and 2007 400ex are the same from what I know about them, but for a few hundred bucks difference you can have your choice of color. If you're planning on keeping the bike for a while then I'd say get the 2005, but if you might only have it for a couple years, get the 2007. It will bring you more money when you sell it because it hasn't depriciated as much. Again, if you're in it for the long haul, get him down a bit more on the price of the 2005, regardless of the color, and then after you bang up the plastics a few months down the road, you can buy new ones in whichever color you want with the money you saved from buying a leftover. Maybe make him throw in a 4 year warranty for free or a helmet or some nerf bars or something. Or if you want to save even more money buy a used one that's still under warranty, you can't go wrong with a used honda. It's a shame you are so far from the east coast, I have a 2004 that has barely been ridden since day one with a factory warranty until 2/2008 for almost 2 grand less than that 2005 your dealer is trying to pawn off on you.

I agree with TwinCam, I bought my 05 TRX450R for $5k OTD (best price I got was $4850 OTD) a couple months ago.

I was offered an 06 TRX450ER for $6300 OTD.

The 400EX is an awesome quad but when the price is so close to a 450R you might want to take another look.

Thanks guys for the quick response. The reason I don't want a 450R because of no reverse. I will try to widdle him down on the '05 more than the '07. To me it doesn't matter what year I get. I feel if I can get the '05 for $5000, it might be OK. But I will never get the '07 for $5000. Over the phone he sounded like your typical salesman. We'll see what he does when I grab him by the neck. LOL
