Drain screw question ???
#1
One of my 330's has been draining gas out through the drain on the carb bowl. I thought the screw or the seat in the bowl drain was bad so I just ty-rapped the drain hose to stop it. Well, I just put a brand new carb on the bike (not because of this) and it does the same thing. When the engine is running gas is forced out of the carb bowl through the drain screw. I put some major torque on the drain screw and it will not stop leaking. It stops when I shut the motor off and starts up again as soon as I start the motor. Is this just a weird coincidence that two carbs leak the same way or is something else causing this to happen?

sounds like the float isn't set properly causing the gas to flow over the overflow tube. Also check the needle valve, it will leak out if needle valve is bad. I wouldn't recommend tying the hose off the bottom of carb, because in the event of needle valve leaking it wouldnt drain out the overflow hose and fill your cylinder up with gas. Also you dont need to crank screw 1/4 turn before snapping off, just enough to seat the screw into the bowl, remembering that it is an aluminum carb. I hope this helps you

Very curious, I just pulled the bowl off of the carb. I do not see a way for fuel to escape the bowl and drain through this hose without going through the drain screw. Is there another way for the fuel to escape into the hose? I put some close up shots of the bowl in my pic's. Please look at them and tell me how fuel is getting past this point without going through the drain screw. Does the brass rod sticking up have anything to do with it?

THE TUBE COMING UP OUT OF THE BOWL HAS A SMALL HOLE IN IT EITHER ON THE TOP OR SIDE OF IT. IT IS CALLED A OVERFLOW TUBE. THE FLOAT IS CAUSING THE GAS TO GO OVER THE TUBE HOLE AND COME OUT OF THE BOTTOM OF THE BLEED PORT. YOU NEED TO BEND THE FLOAT NEEDEL BLADE(THE FLAT METAL PIECE THAT THE NEEDLE IS CONECTED TO)TO WHERE IT LOWERS THE FLOATS DOWN TOWARDS THE BOWL JUST A LITTLE BIT. IF IT DOES NOT STOP THE PROBLEMTHE FIRST TIME TRY IT AGAIN IF IT STILL PERSISTS TO LEEK YOU MAY NEED TO CHANGE THE FLOAT NEEDEL. AND ALSO CHECK AND SEE IF THE TWO CLEAR TUBES ON THE TOP OF THE CARB ARE NOT STOPPED OUP. THESE ARE THE FUEL BOWL VENTS AND NEED TO BREATH.

Hey STARKSREBEL, you are the man. There is a hole in the brass tube. You can actually see it in one of the pic's I posted. I did not notice it before. That has to be how the fuel is getting past the drain screw. Call me stupid but the overflow explaination was not making any sense until I found the hole. I will make the proper float adjustments tomorrow AM.
Do you know a guy named Paul in Starks that works for Citgo? If you do tell him Sean from Highlands said Hi.
