Hey all, New to the forum and fairly new to atv's. I've been into offroading trucks for years but it was time for a change. I just picked up a free 1986 fourtrax250 that starts and runs but won't shift. I have torn into the right side of the case and the auto clutch is a little worn but only like .005in out of tolerance. I figure if this was my problem, at worst it would be just slipping. But it won't shift at all if the wheels are on the ground. I can put the rear up on jack stands and get it to go into gear though. I even rode it through 1st and 2nd but when I shifted into 3rd it just acted like it went into neutral but it wasn't. Then I could not get it back into any gear. What else could it be???

Another question for you. Can a trx250R plastics be adapted to the fourtrax frame? Mine are shot and I don't want to go back with the utility fenders.
