The new Kodiaks have a limited-slip 4WD system. Is it be better to have all 4 wheels lock-up? I was also wondering if the Kodiaks 4WD sytem is engaged at the differential instead of the hub? Does that front shaft on all 4WD ATV's spin all the time?

 

I'm not sure if the Kodiak 4WD set up is the same as the Grizzly. But it connects through a rack and pinion set up by the front u-joint, right behind the front carrier housing. The front drive shaft and front axles turn at all times. You can just break the connection at the front drive shaft. Having a locked front end is better for traction, but not good for driveability. Its harder to steer and you can end up with broken cv's. I think the Traxter has the best 4WD system. It drives all 4 wheels when needed, but differentiates front wheel speed while cornering, and its a purely mechanical system. The Polaris system will also drive all 4 wheels when needed, but it needs electricity to operate, and has more moving parts.
