2004 Raptor 660 - Carb or parking break??
#1
Hi everyone...
I have a 2004 Yamaha Raptor 660 that I bought about a week and a half ago. I rode it for a few minutes before I bought it and it ran great. I rode it around the neighborhood once a couple of days ago and had no problems. Today when I went to go ride it started to give me problems. It cranked up just fine. It idled just fine. As I gave it gas, it started to spit / sputter. It would not really go anywhere and kind of jerked back and forth as I rode. I could give it full throttle and it would do the same thing. Even back fired several times. At first I thought that it was not warmed up yet so i let it idle and warm up, but that wasnt it. Like I said....it cranks and idles fine. I talked to a friend who said that there is probably just some trash in the carb.....he said mostly likely in the pilot jet. Sound right? Or could it be anything else? When I previously posted this, I got a few replies stating that it was the parking break. I think I have had that problem before. But would the parking break be causing this even when its in neutral? If I have it in neutral and I give it gas then it does the same thing. It runs real rough....sputters, backfires.
Thanks
Dan

if its the parking break it will have a steady popping when you press the throttle, now if its kinda loopy then pull the spark plug(replace while your at it) and if it looks chalky then your running to lean its not getting enough gas now there are alot of problems that can be
1. jetting. when you took it riding was it at a higher altitude
2. carb is dirty. spray some carb cleaner change the gas and if you know how take apart carbs and clean jets
3. air filter might be dirty
now if its smoking you might need to get the valves adjust raptors have a problem
does it have any after market parts on it ?
do you have the air filter lid on
if its the parking break there is a wire going to it on the handle bars pop it off with a screwdriver and hold the button in while your revin the engine
