Default New to Polaris?

Hello I am new to Polaris ATV's I have been riding and building ATV for years (30 years riding)(15 years building)but they all have been others like Yamaha Honda Kawasaki and Suzuki.I was given a Polaris 500 pro and a Artic Cat 454 both with low miles. My question for the Polaris is how does the AWD system work does it always get the power to the needed wheeel?I have been plowing snow with it (72"blade)and I am impressed with how much snow it can plow. The reason I have stayed away from Polaris is the quality and reliability of them that I have read in magazines also the weight I am a big in to lite weight ATV's.I also ride alot in the mountians and have pull some Polaris's home but that was 6 years ago since I have done that.It seams to me that they are built better then they use to be except for the weight the 800 twin is 792 lbs wow. What should I look out for with my 500 Pro?I notice alot of noise in the autoclutch. But I was told by the dealer that is normal. It only has 150 miles on it so I assume that it is fine. Also I have changed the oil and when I did I drained it from the oil tank and then added back to the tank but when I did the oil I added started coming back out the oil fill.I did not have a manual for it then but I do now.Is the reason the oil came back out is because I did not drain the crack case like it says to do in the manual? Thanks

The AWD on the Polaris kick-in when the rear wheels slip about 1/5 of a turn this happens so fast you don't even know it.....It is said to be the best out there right now.....as per the weight issue...........These are utility quads and should have the weight behind them if you ask me...That is one of the reasons I bought one..........Caper........

Do they make lockers for the Polaris like they do my Wolverines?Or are they not needed?I guess I am so used to light quads because I do alot of trail riding not use to the whole utility thing. Thanks

Like I said ......they are said to have the best(4X4) out there right now.....They don't need "lockers' like the others you are use too. They have "true 4X4 locked in when the AWD kicks in........FULL 4 wheels "NOT "limited slip where only power will go to the one frount wheell. That is one of the reason why you say it plows so well.......Weight and TRUE 4X4.......Caper.......

I don't think they make lockers for the Polaris. My 500ho always has the front "locked" when engaged...both sides pulling.

Cool then is sounds like I got a good one for plowing thanks for the info.I just wish I could turn the AWD off and just have the back tires work only.I was told that most of the other Polaris models have this my 500 Professional Series does not sucks.

I know the 02 500 Sportman RMK used a Vico-loc instead of the "Polaris" AWD. If this is so, the Polaris Profesional may had the different diff if there is no switch to engage/dis-engage. Does the front hub have a large balck steel cylindar sticking out about 2 1/2 inches on both hubs? This is the indication of the pre 2004 sp 500 AWD. As of 2002 700 03 700/600 and all 04 the AWD engages in the front diff and not in the hubs.
