Default Rancher 420 Valve Settings and Fuel Injection?????

I remember someone posting that some Ranchers left the factory with the valves adjusted wrong. Anybody have a list of the VINs involved??? I called the dealer, and they had only heard of this "through the grapevine", and hadn't heard anything directly from Honda yet........

Also, I was wondering if anybody knows if the Ranchers FI has an oxygen sensor???? I know Raptor 700 owners are lamenting that machines lack of one.

I had the Rancher up to ~6,000' yesterday, and it seemed to adapt to the altitude change very well. This ride has a 3,500' change in altitude, and you get to a large plateau on top where I ran around for an hour or so. I did stop at the top to "reset" the FI, just incase it doesn't have an oxygen sensor (just turn the engine off then restart it). There was of course some loss of power, but it wasn't significant......even FI can't replace the missing oxygen, all it can do is lean out the mixture to keep you from running rich.

I think I might be able to find a place in the Inyo Mountains (one mountain range over from Death Valley where it doesn't usually get the heavy snowfall that the Sierra gets), where I might be able to get to ~10,000'. I am anxious to see how it does at that altitude. Going to try to get up there in the next couple of weeks........

You need to find a new dealer, period. Heard it through the grapevine???? Honda issued a set up notice to all dealers to notifiy them of this problem. I have had to do two of them already. If yours was involved it SHOULD have been done right away, before it left the dealer. Sorry, I don't have the VIN range in front of me but can get back to you when I do.

I don't believe there is an O2 sensor.

Read here:

Fuel Injection

The O2 sensor works in conjuction with the MAF sensor in auto engines to monitor oxygen levels in the exhaust because oxygen will kill a catalytic converter.

i think the altitude thing is blown a bit out of proportion. my friend moved from pa, where her bike was jetted at 1850ft, took the bike to utah and rode mountains. said her bike did fine till 8000 ft, she removed the air lid and continued on to about 12,000 ft. she said she lost close to 30 percent of her power, but said it didn't impact her riding enough to make her turn around. although i agree her tuning is out of whack i don't really see the altitude being an issue. i've been as high as 6500 feet with mine and barely feel much difference
