I have done an exhaustive search on this subject and cannot find the answer. Help!

The only couple posts I could find on the subject says to preload the spring in the driven clutch before reassembly. I tried that (outside sheave clockwise 1/4 turn inside sheave counter clockwise) but after that the clutch was screaming and the machine would hardly move. I pulled it back apart and reinstalled without a preload and it seems to be fine now. The question is should it have preload? When idling the driven clutch now turns no matter how much a reduce the idle speed. I can't say that I noticed that before. Is that normal.

Is it a roller clutch, with 3 wheels inside or does it have ramps with plastic slides on them? The roller does not need to be preloaded from what I understand.

I reviewed the heelclicker site where I found some directions. There is no mention of preload.

 

When you assemble a ramp style driven, you will want to set the stationary sheave down on a bench turn the moveable sheave til the ramps will contact the buttons, then put the helix down and snap ring it. Before you put the cover on run it in neutral to see what the driven is doing, but be VERY careful.

 

The driven clutch is moving at idle.

 

Is this normal?
