400EX makes clicking sound when starting

when i try starting my EX it turns over once and then I just get a clicking sound, it comes from the small round cylinder sitting next to the battery.. anyone know what this is about?

Sounds like your starter. How is the charge on your battery? I would look there fist. Good luck!

yes that cylinder thing would be your starter. The problem is your battery. Try to charge and see if it will hold a charge for more then a day. If it doesn't you should get a new battery.

yeah i charged my battery and pressed the start button and it fires right up now... thanks

just so everyone know that round thing NEXT to the battery is not the starter, the starter is down by the engine, that round thing is the starter selonoid, and your problem might not have been the battery but the connections on the battery being loose and you fixed that when you tighted your new battery. have your old battery checked you may be able to sell it
