I am looking to buy a used sport quad 250cc. What should I look for on the quad and what questions should I ask?

 

Well I also buy used , seems like its the way to go nowadays. Soon as that wheeler walks out the showroom door $$$ is deducted. Well here are some things you'll want to ask the owner: How was the atv kept?;garage, cover,etc.
Was the atv broken in properly?; some people don't know that when you buy new you have to break in the engine, if you don't you can cause damage to the engine. Does the atv get maintenanced regularly?; you don't want a road hard put away wet machine.
Also when your buying a used quad always ask for pictures before you go to pick up the atv, not everything they say in ad's are true,For example one time I had saw a great deal on an atv and the condition in the ad said ,"like New!" well i don't know where that guy buys from but after traveling 40 miles to see a beaten quad i was very disappointed.

Put the front end up on something and check the front tires (tie rods, ball joints, brakes). Same for the rear except you're really just looking for the bearings to be tight and the swingarm up by the motor. Jerk the handlebars around to make sure their is no slop up there. Check under the machine to see if the frame is all dented up. I had an 89' banshee that got rode real hard and toward the end the under part of the frame (a-arms, frame, swingarm) were starting to show.
