Default 400ex carb problem

hello, i have an 02 400ex. i went to start it the other day, and it wouldnt. it would fire once, then die. i took apart the carb apart, and cleaned it, since i was going to anyways. while i was at it, i checked the plug, to see if it was getting spark, and it wasnt. so i changed the plug, but it still wouldnt start. i shot a little starting fluid down the carb, and it fired right up, then quit after it was done running off the starting fluid. anyways, i checked the carb, and it was bone dry. there is gas coming out of the line on the tank, but none filling in the carb. any ideas? thanx

Default 400ex carb problem

ok, so i took the carb apart, and did some tests. i left the bowl off, and and hooked the carb up to the tank. the needle and seat works fine, as in, when i push up on the floats, the gas shuts off, and when i let them down, the gas pours out. the only thing i could think of is the plastic piece that goes over the main jet is holding the floats in the up position. i dont know tho. any suggestions. thank you in advance.

The needle is the only thing I can think of. Some how it wasn't letting gas in to the bowl. Hopefully you got it working now.

alright, dumb mistake. i put the floats in upside down. she runs good now. i only have one more question. i rejetted it, putting in a 155 main, and dropping the needle clip down one. it runs fine at low to mid range, but it sputters a little when its at full throttle. should i just drop the main down. i was thinking a 153. it has a k&n filter, and a drd exhaust.

I would make a couple of full throttle runs and shut it down and pull the plug. Dark color is rich, light brown or tan is good. Sounds to me like you have some experience.
