Sorry for trespassing but my son is interested in buying a used (or maybe new $$$) Wolverine and was wondering what to look for. What are the strengths and weaknesses? He intends to use it for trail riding (some mudding) and hunting. When checking out used Wolverines what should we be the areas of concern? One more question how does it run against a SP500 cos he would like even more if it would smoke my Sportsman 500. Let me know what you think so I can pass it on to him.

The Wolverine is a great machine. Especially if you are looking for a sport 4X4. If you are wanting to do any work the Wolverine is the wrong machine. It is geared a little high to be doing a lot of towing or heavy hauling. The only real weak link of the Wolverine is the front wheel bearings wear out pretty quick if you ride in a lot of mud and water but other than that you can't beat the Wolverine for a sport 4X4. Compared to a Sportsman they are about even unless you have one of the new HO's.

Front wheel bearings suck, brakes don't last, rear axle bends, and front hubs tend to bend too easily. Don't get me wrong, it's a great bike. Most bikes have more weaknesses than that, and more severe and expensive weaknesses. The wolverine is a great toy, but it's not a workhorse. It is just geared too high for that. One other concern you should have, considering that you are in edmonton... wolverines are a pain to start and keep running in the cold. Of course you could always move to Calgary and get some chinooks :0)

Let me get this straight.... you're saying that Yamahas wear out too fast, so buy a Polaris??? That's kinda like saying that a Porche is too slow, so you should buy a Tempo.
