Im just wondering how it compares to the other cams out there. How much power did you notice from it? Low, mid, or top end? I am also going to put a piston in at the same time so what size should I get? I was reccomended a JE 10.8-1. Will I get a good increase in power with this set up? Thanks,

Nick

BAD IDEA, it is cheap but power gains are not significant, the problem is no decompression valve, EX's start hard as it is, this would be even worse, also it strains the starter much more and even could take teeth off the flywheel with time. Megacycle makes the best cams around, they are 170 but no core charge, hardfaced rockers are required, they won;t sell a cam without them, the stock arms are wimpy and will quickly be ruined along with your new cam. Call megacycle, It's about 370 for everything, I know this is very expensive but they are worth it, I noticed HUGE power gains, RIDE RED!!!

Incorrect, the XR cam does have the decompressor setup, every aftermarket cam I have seen does not. Even so - No, the likelyhood of removing a tooth from a flywheel is very slim as the starter is constantly meshed with the fly gear & freewheels when the engine is under it's own power.

The XR cam will wake up the mid and top a bit & is an OEM cam. No hardfacing required (a significant expense). It's a cheap, easy way to alter your powerband.

Mix it with a JE 10.8:1 piston and you have quite a nice little setup. Mine works well and for under $400 I have an EX that is quiet (stock exhaust) & looks stock that will smoke piped bikes & has a very nice midrange for the cross country racing I do.

I was told it doesn't work(decompresser) because it is different on the XR, I get this from my engine builder and Honda mechanic(excellant guy and builds sweet race engines) he says megacycle cams have the decompresser on them that will work. I dunno??? If it did work that'd be neat , its only $100, thats cheap!! So yours works good?

The only difference in the XR setup is the ability to acutate the mechanism manually via an extra lever on the left side of the handlebars & cable running down to the cylinder head. Otherwise the automatic operation works the same.

Yes, the cam works well...
