I am upgrading to an IMS440 right now, and was wondering where I can order an XR400 cam online, and how much they go for.

Does the compression release mech. transfer over to the NEW cam, or does the XR cam just drop right in already having the comp. release mech on it.
Is it nessasary to replace the rockers, or are they ok with the factory Honda XR cam?

Will my IMS 440 with 10.3:1 JE piston, and XR cam, WB-Eseries be a pretty quick quad?

Thanks!

I got the HRC cam (Honda's upgrade for xr400) from Service honda, and it inncluded the comp. release, and I could put it right in. New rocker's aren't nessasary for a soft-weld cam such as the xr400 or HRC, but if it is a high hour motor you may want to get new ones or have the stockers resurfaced, because they may already be worn in quite a bit and a new cam could just take out a little more until they get worn in together. You should also consider getting new valve springs to replace when you do they cam, as the originals are probably pretty weakend considering it's a '99. I put new springs on my 01 when I did the cam 6 months ago, just for peace of mind. Your quad should be pretty quick with your setup, I know after my cam/bore/11:1 piston/porting mods, there was a night and day difference.

My buddy had the exact combo that you're talking about. It was pretty quick. He was able to take stock Banshee's. However, he got tired of getting beaten up by my piped Raptor so he now has a GT Thunder cam and a 39mm FCR carb. We have yet to race with his new combo. It ended up being a good deal for me. Because now I have his XR cam in my 400EX.

I HAVE A XR GRIND CAM IN MY 440 MADE BY THE SAME COMPANY AS PIVOT WORKS. YOU NEED TO CALL THEM FOR PRICING. IT DOESNT HAVE THE COMP RELEASE MECHANISM BUT IT REALLY DOESNT NEED IT. MINE STARTS JUST FINE ACTUALLY MOST OF THEM FAIL ANYWAY. I HIGHLY RECOMEND IT.
