I am having a real hard time deciding between the two. I like the power of the 400ex and have never driven the Rancher. I want to be able to ride in the snow and also off the trail in the summer. Here is the main question

1. How does a 400ex ride in the snow, and off the trail in the summer?

i own a 400 ex and my bro owns a big 450 4x4 and its a work out just to turn it. he really enjoys riding my ex and in the snow is about the coolest thing in the world i live in town and its illegal to ride in the streets but i cant resist it. they tried to take me to jail for it and impound the ex. but they let me off with a warning. now in heavy snow i dont no i live in oklahoma but you get on the ice and you can do donuts and fish tails you should go with the ex.

 

I have a 2000 ex and a 96 300 4x4. I love both but if I had to choose the 300 would win without a doubt. Goes anywhere and never ever complains.

 

If you just ride for leisure rides, get the Rancher. If you are like me and get the urge to kick the back end out and ride wheelies and jump every little bump you see, get the 400EX. Of course it will not go through deep snow like the Rancher would nor over radical obstacles in the woods, like a 4x4 does, but with momentum and body english you can go just about anywhere the 4x4's can go. Hey I got an idea, get both!!
