Mine is my Sig Sauer P245 made right here in New Hampshire. .45 caliber, semi-automatic, compact frame, perfect for concealed carry.

Never leave home without it, you'll never know when you need it.

Now that you've told us, why conceal your firearm?

In other words, why tell us you're carrying a concealed firearm?

Haven't you just compromised a feature of your pistol?

You may want to check with Mr. Massad Ayoob of the Lethal Force Institute in Concord.

As to caliber, should special attention be attached to .45 caliber, in contrast to .44 Mag, .357 Mag, .40 S&W, 9 mm Para, .38 Spl., .38 Super, etc.?

Mr. Ruger rides with me all the time. He is a 9mm semi-auto with 15 "friends" who are ready to play.

Our greatest threat where we ride is from 2 legged creatures not the mountain lions or bears. This year we have found 2 abandoned & burned cars in the area where we ride both had out of state plates.

You never know what might or might not be around the next corner!

Friends, it ain't the Old West (in fact, it NEVER WAS the Old West, except in Hollywood, CA). It ain't even the Old East.

Deadly force can be ethically, and sometimes, legally, justified ONLY if: One reasonably believes the imminent and UNAVOIDABLE threat of death or serious injury to the innocent exists.

Meaning, if you can't run, hide, retreat, apologize, avoid, or evade the prospect of death or serious injury to the innocent, only then is deadly force justified.

No shooting a guy stealing your quad and six-pack, no shooting the prowler and dragging him across the threshold, no Code Duello at High Noon.

Merely threatening to draw a weapon may constitute the crime of assault; actually drawing one may comprise the crime of "brandishing" a weapon. Add drinking to carrying a firearm and you become a pigeon for the prosecutor/plaintiff's attorney.

Even if you MUST use deadly force because you have no other choice, your life will be changed forever: First, write out a $ 100,000 check as a retainer for your attorney, even in a "righteous" shooting. Then, be prepared to be known always as "the guy who shot the (fill in this blank, kid, man, whatever)."

Instead of fantasizing situations where you must use deadly force, pray none ever happens.

Then, if you feel you must carry a concealed weapon, telling others about it is questionable; as is "flashing" your "piece;" certainly bragging about it may suggest paranoia/compensatory machisimo.

"Be careful out there."

I will agree about deadly force. My "friend" is there as a last resort. My dad told me "Never draw your gun UNLESS you are going to use it".

I would rather have a gun & not need it than need a gun & not have it. Especially when its only my wife & kid rideing with me!

I agree. And often carry a weapon when riding in the back country. However, my favorite riding partner is my brother, and Friend Charlie. The three of us make a pretty intimidating group.

Tree Farmer,

Thank you for the sermon. However, I do not think it was necessary. Most people that pack for protection, especially those that have obtained their concealment license tend to be responsible adults.

You state some do's and dont's. These do's and don'ts may apply to the state that you live in, but here in Texas if someone is stealing your atv you have the right to shoot them dead.

As far as telling others what kind of piece we carry, there isn't a damn thing wrong with that. There are no laws against it, there isn't paranoia kicking in. I personally think people are proud of what they own. Just as one is proud of the machine they ride, people are also proud on the type of gun they decided to purchase for themselves.

And I happen to be one of them. I'm proud of the type of gun I pack, I'm proud of the arsenal that I have in my collection. Just as I'm proud of the atv I ride, the truck that I haul it in, the house that I bought, the way I decorated my house, etc.

I don't think those that decide to pack for protection are running around out there on their atv's fantazing about someone trying to forcefully take it from them so they can kill them.

One final note, anyone involved in a "righteous" shooting as you put it will NOT have anything to fear. If things reached that point, that means there was no other viable alternative.

FKNA,

You hit the nail on the head. The people I ride with carry guns and we don't reinact somekind of wild west shoot out. We are responsible adults. Some carry them concealed others in the open on their hips. This isn't some macho thing, its called reality!

Lets face it in todays world you have to protect yourself, especially in the back country.

Only once in my lifetime did I ever unholster my weapon. My family & I were staying at a hotel while on vacation & some drunk was trying to kick my door in! Lucky for him he didn't kick that door open.
